com.phaseone.captureone7

Anyone out there an expert on creating "com.phaseone.captureone7" from scratch.
I want to be able to set up new users preferences exactly the same way every time.
It would be great if Phase could supply an annotated outline so that users could configure everything without the use of a GUI. Some of it is discernible, some of it is more obscure--i.e:

"NSTableView Sort Ordering Browser List" = ( <040B7374 7265616D 74797065 6481E803 84014084 8484084E 53537472 696E6701 8484084E 534F626A 65637400 8584012B 0D49445F 496D6167 655F4461 746586>,
:true, <040B7374 7265616D 74797065 6481E803 84014084 8484084E 53537472 696E6701 8484084E 534F626A 65637400 8584012B 0749445F 4E616D65 86>,
:true
);

I am managing 2000+ users on different machines.... please help make my life easier...

Not from scratch... But I have played with adjusting prefs, saving the plist file and then overwriting the existing one on a new machine. I found the best program for doing this to be Xcode, that way you get drop downs with actual working values and won't booger up the file.

I can also tell you what parameters exist in this file can and does change from version to version and from one machine to the next.

Also, Phase has changed the .plist.lockfile recently to a .plist.(random 7 character) file making it a bit trickier to nail down and hampering the ability to reliably replace it.

When you view the above in Xcode, you will see it as an array of data sets and Strings which might make it easier to decipher.

Perhaps if you could tell me what parameters you have that are important to copy from user to user, and perhaps what ones are not, which individual users would want to keep to themselves, that might be helpful for me to point you in a better direction.

thanks Midwest.

will start editing in Xcode instead of text mate --having to convert it back to binary--will make it much easier.

looking to setup all the annoying preferences in "preferences" to not check for updates, not register cameras etc...
Also looking to have contain information on multiple crop presets, multiple recipes (which are bundled in the app support files). Want it to keep my workspace layout, while traditionally handles by the workspace app support files--it not always sets everything he exact same way depending on screen size. for example certain tool, while present, will be collapsed f opened on a 13' laptop. Certain tools must be expanded while others can be collapsed when the session starts. I need to have a naming preset saved--i found that and looks pretty straightforward. Need to have the high and low exposure warnings set to specific values. These and so many more... Will give Xcode a shot and see what i can come up with,

Any tips on what NOT to mess around with?

Let's take this offline... click on my user name and shoot me an email and I will lay out what I can for you once I am off the company's dime.

You also may want to check out something like PlistEdit Pro to make changes and save copies.
Just be aware of Apples preference file caching in the newer OS's, overwriting one with the other in 10.9 is not as easy as it once was.

I'm specifically looking for a way to transfer naming convention presets, crop presets and preference settings from one machine to another.

Not an opportunity to create multiple presets, but I think this should allow you to set the default naming format.

No idea where these are stored... If anyone knows I would be interested in knowing too.

Any settings in particular?

UseAnalyticsUserDefault (send crash info to phase)
AutostartImporterOnMount
selectedRecipeName
AutoShowActivities
etc?

If you are looking to change default parametric settings for a specific make/model of camera, they are in application support. That's fairly easy to deal with.

What is the proper procedure for replacing an existing com.phaseone.captureone7 with one that i have configured? Another user mentioned preference caching issues in regards to Mavericks.

This is the same issue that I had mentioned as well...

in the past, OSX used a lockfile naming format for these files where the lock file would end in ".plist.lockfile". in the current state, OSX 10.9 and later, they have gone from ".plist.lockfile" to ".plist.(random jibber jabber)". For example, right now the lock file on one of my machines is com.phaseone.captureone7.plist.nzQO1wQ, where nzQO1wQ is a randomly generated name suffix created to make life more difficult on people who wish to script the removal of this sort of thing, kind of like Apple looking out for our safety, like they did when they hid the user library from the "Go" drop down in the finder menu.

If you wish to overwrite a com.phaseone.captureone7.plist file, you will also need to make sure that one of these other files is not locking it. Since you are replacing with a master file with known values, I would recommend getting rid of the existing plist file and any lock files through scripting prior to trying to write your master file.

One thing you can do is compare and contrast the before and after values for some of these from a clean install and once you have set these values and saved them. This might give you the more exact value for things like shadow warning level.

Great. Thanks.
FYI, the best way i have found to manage these prefs is to create a device profile that forces the values from a .mobileconfig file to be used instead of the values from the users preferences folder. Works like a charm. No more annoying prompts or having to set up capture one the way i need it.

Just out of curiosity, where are you that you have 2,000+ Capture One users?
