Sort By Date Default

Postby sizzlingbadger » Fri Jun 28, 2013 12:28 am

v 7.1.3 on OSX

How can I set C1 catalog to sort my images by date by default ?

The default setting is sort by name. I can change this to date on each folder but I have 1000's of folders.

Parent folders don't remember their sort criteria. When I start C1 up the parent folders all revert back to sort by Name.

A big +1 from me on this one as well. Don't understand why name and not date is the default, a having to change it on every folder is silly. Don't understand what you mean by "Parent folders don't remember their sort criteria" though.

+++++++1000. Any wedding or multiple shooter/camera event requires this. It just makes sense.

I think I have this one figured out.
Y'all may already do this, but I was bored and wanted to figure it out.
Set the sort preferences to "Date"
Then save the workspace.
It worked in catalogs but when I tried a test session it wouldn't take.
However, when I populated the session with photos, it worked.
So in essence: make your changes, create a custom workspace and they will stick.
The only thing is, you have to do this for each session. You dont have to create a new workspace, just update the custom workspace you created.
Having a default setting would be nice but this isn't a horrible workaround.

I know this is kinda old, but just wanted to say thanks to Jimmy who was the only one to post a possible solution, still works in C1 v10, this sorting by Name thing has been driving me nuts.

bumping this thread...maybe some devs will come around and will allow us to set the default sorting...

I have also noted that in some cases the sort by date is not providing proper results. Since the time stamp is not being shown in the browser as opposed to LR Grid View, I am not sure what time is C1 actually using for the sort.
