Using Capture One on Multiple Comptures

Postby NNN637072086990741804 » Tue Oct 22, 2019 4:28 pm

I am about to migrate from Lightroom to Capture One. I work off two computers with an external drive. So far there does not seem to be an issue doing this however I did see an FAQ where it appears that styles & presets are stored locally. I can work around this.

Are there any other issues I should be aware of regarding keeping catalogs on an external drive?
Is it possible to keep all Capture One data on an external drive...excluding the actual program?

Thank you.

Hi,

You should know that all the adjustments (except a few, like crops, exposure, ratings,...) won't be transfer from LR to C1. If you are stuck with adjustments you did in LR, it would be better to keep both catalogs (LR and C1), with all the shortcomings which could come from this (sync is not possible, as you can guess).
Styles and presets you got with LR can't be used with C1, as the tools, cursors, etc... are quite different from one software to the other.

I don't see any issue on keeping the catalogs on an external drive, except that the softwares could be less responsive (in time). Usually, most of the people working with catalogs keep their original RAW images on an external disk, and the softwares and catalogs on the internal disk.

Thanks, I knew that my most of my LR adjustments would not come through. I should be ok but I will go slow and see how it goes.

Thanks also for the information about catalogs on an external drive. Because I switch computers often I will need to keep my catalogs on my external drive too.

User settings are stored locally on each machine and almost all are not part of any simple C1 copy over but would need to be kept in sync separately. (There are some exceptions that are driven from other parts of the system.)

For technical reasons not all of these variables are compatible between Mac and PC should you be contemplating such a mix - as some do.
