Way to change capture date on import?

Postby NN635397560641408450UL » Sat May 26, 2018 12:35 am

I have a batch of raw files taken with the incorrect time (Sony RX1000V, .ARWs). I had returned from a trip to a time zone four hours ahead of my own (US Pacific) and forgotten to reset the camera's time zone back before shooting my next project. Is there a process to adjust the time stamp in the import dialog, importing into a catalog? Failing that, can you recommend a tool to change the time stamp prior to import? I purchased an app called Photo Meta Edit ($3), but it won't see the Sony raw files, only JPEGs.

Many thanks, Hugh

You can't change the date in Capture One, because the software operates on a principle of never altering the raw file. I have used Exif Editor https://exifeditor.com for this purpose. It works well, but you have to notice that the date may be stored in several places in the Exif information and you need to change the right one.

Exif Editor ($14.99 CAD) is basically a GUI that lets you run exiftool https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ It looks like a decent GUI .

Or, if you want to contain costs, or wish to get a little more technical, just get exiftool from https://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ and and install it (its free). To run it from Terminal, type "exiftool" and then drag a file you are interested in from the Finder to the termonal window, and click return. You will geet quite an extensive list of tags.

Akternatively type "exiftool" and click return, and you will get a useful page of instructions.

A free GUI interface for exiftool is pyExifToolGUI, from https://hvdwolf.github.io/pyExifToolGUI/. configuring it can be trickly, see https://tonyredhead.com/google-tips/pyexiftool-exiftool-linking-issue

Eric,

I sometimes use Exiftool Terminal command version, but I find it a little cumbersome. You give in your post above a link (the first one) to a GUI version I am interested in. Unfortunately, it's not the good link, as it points to the "Terminal" version.
Could you please give me the right link to the GUI version ?
Thanks,
Robert
