Capture One 11.1 Video Overview

Postby Sashasvet » Thu Apr 19, 2018 2:59 pm

Hi!
I've just posted Capture One 11.1 Video Overview - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3FFhR5UDoY
In the video, I'm showing how the new Normalize tool works, how to apply styles to layers from the Styles tool and other features of Capture One 11.1.

If you prefer to read a text, I have an article about Capture One 11.1 as well - http://alexonraw.com/capture-one-11-1/ :)

I have to say, I'm very happy with the Update - they really fixed a lot of annoying bugs. Not all of them it seems, tough I haven't tried whether they also fixed the Wacom issues they aren't mentioned in the release notes so I guess that's still a problem.

However the issues with the Styles order in the toolbar is gone, as are the issues with duplicating etc. and that makes me really happy because it tells you that they are listening to us when we contact tech support to report an issue.

Now as to how much Normalize will help - I think it can also remove/compensate for slight colour shifts between lenses.
My 120mm is slightly warmer than the rest of my lens lineup and I think with Normalize I could remove that difference.

EDIT: It works fairly well but I think it also works on layers so you need to be mindful of that. Means you could also "just" normalize a particular layer instead of the base layer (so be careful which you select).

Thank you for the video and text, Alexander: very informative!

A feature that I think is very valuable but pretty much undocumented is LCC (which, as far as I know, stands for Lens Cast Correction, not Lens Color Calibration).

A specific video on how to use this feature (either from you or C1) would be much appreciated.

It works just the same in C1 11/11,1 - but the newer algorithms are much better. However you need a white piece of plexi (3-5mm thin and large enough to cover the lens).

Thank you for the link and explanation.

However, according to the release notes, there are new features in this tool, and it would be nice to know how to get advantage from them:

"Enhanced LCC presets

LCC presets can now include the lens profile and shift X/Y data (if used) as part of the saved preset, to aid in more streamlined workflow when correcting for lens cast."

What does it mean, in practical terms, "including" the lens profile? Aren't the lens profile corrections already applied in the lens correction tool?

I think it means that now you can save LCC presets that also include the lens profile.

A lens profile is a given 'preset' that corrects chromatic aberration, diffraction and distortion - those things LCCs can't correct.

As in how useful this would be is another question, my lenses are mostly excellent so I never have to apply any lens profiles or corrections at all...
