XF back dial should support ISO value

Postby NN636060166224184482UL » Wed Nov 22, 2017 3:28 pm

According Phase one support, XF back dial only support IQ3 ISO control, but I see the dial of IQ180 can make ISO on the XF LCD highlight, change its vale can be easily done via firmware update. Hope Phase one can fix this in the next update. Otherwise, open that software that I can do it for your guys. That is very basic embedded software concept, since the ISO vale on the LCD is contacted. just modify the value via dial moving.
I knew XF controls aperture and shutter speed, but IQ180 controls ISO, as long as IQ180 can communicate with XF with the existed interface ( that is hard to change), to show ISO at XF, that means IQ180 and XF can exchange ISO message. So encode (reuse) other interface command to update both IQ180 and XF firmware should solve the issue.

Keep in mind that ISO is a function of the digital back and not the camera body - the reason it doesn't work with the IQ1 series is that this line of backs is not capable of the same level of back/body communication as the IQ2 and IQ3 backs. Similarly Camera controls from the digital back screen are not available on the IQ1, but is on IQ2 and IQ3.

Again, the software encode can use the existed interface pines of IQ1 back to send ISO control commands from XF body to the back. That just show how capable Phase One embedded software engineers, if I would lead the team, I can easily fix this via re-use the IQ1 existed protocol.

It would probably mean very heavy rewrite of current IQ1 line firmware, major update of XF firmware (which will need to support older/newer IQ1 verisons) plus there will be for sure demand to update DF+ for new firmware.
So if you would "lead the team", I don't think that you will be able to justify cost for such development (and QA) for 7 years old backs.

Come on, this is not rocket science. Just pass the ISO value from XF to The back ISO code interface. If we control the scope this would be not a big project. In general, Phase one embedded software is about 5-10 years behind Sony, Canon or Nikon.
