Schneider L/S 240mm and Lee SW150 Adapter

Postby smajeed » Wed Apr 06, 2016 12:33 am

Hi,

New to the forum and wondering if someone can help me solve what is most likely a very simple problem but one I cannot seem to be able to fix and it is probably something silly.

I have the L/S 240mm lens and bought the 86mm filter adapter from Lee to connect to the SW150 filter system. I also bought adapters for other lenses and they all screw on without any issue and is straightforward enough but for the 240 lens I cannot for the life of me get the 86mm lens to screw on to the end of the lens.

It seems that because the hood sticks out a few mm from the lens itself the adapter is unable to hook onto the lens thread - it would only seem possible if I can remove the lens hood but it does not seem possible to remove the lens hood? It may well be an issue with the adapter but I assume lee are advising this adapter and it has been tested by someone...

Anyway - the 86mm is what is compatible according to suppliers and Lee's website but although the other adapters are spot on - this particular lens is proving tricky. If anyone knows if the hood can be removed (and how) or if they themselves happen to have tried the adapter on their own 240 lens - would be great to get any advice/help.

Thanks
Shahbaz

I know this is an old post, but I thought I would reply, as it concerns me as well. As you've probably determined, the integrated lens hood on the 240 makes using any filter slot system almost impossible. I have the Lee SW150 and the Wine Country Camera, and the Hitech, and the Breakthrough, blah, blah, blah. The integrated hood on the 240 seems to be just deep enough to prevent use of the adapters for these systems. Interestingly, I can get a Wine Country 77mm adaptor on my Mamiya 3009/4.5. Not sure if my Lee 77mm will work on that. Would love to have a solution for the S-K 240, though, that doesn't require individual 86mm filters.

Anyone tried removing the integrated hood?

Thanks for the reply. I am inquiring of my dealer. I really might be willing to take the hood off, permanently if necessary, to be able to use filters better

I don't know if this is a viable solution for you, but I've had a similar issue with the Mamiya 210mm and its lenshood.

Though I was able to finally find a compatible system (Nisi) I had to use a step-up ring between the lens and the filter adapter ring.

Of course this means you'll need 1. a set-up ring from 86mm to 95mm or 105mm in order to use it with the LEE screw-in lens adapters.

I can't guarantee it'll work and it's of course a bit of a hassle but at least you wouldn't have to remove the hood.

I used a standard 86mm filter on the lens which then enabled me to then use step rings to whatever size I needed In my case it was the Fotodiox 145 polariser Filter. There was very little vignetting which was easily taken out in PP

Hi Paul/C-MB,

Thanks for the replies but the trouble I am having is I can't get my 86mm to thread to the front of the lens due to the lip of the 240 lens in the first place?

Kind Regards

When the lens hood is not in use you should be able to place a 86mm filter to the lens, You then use step rings and screw them in to the filter. however You cannot use the lens hood.
