IQ250 killing firewire repeater?

I've been using the unibrain firewire repeaters for years, but recently I been having them die. They end up smelling like burnt electronics. I didn't think much of it until yesterday when another one died.

I had it plugged into an IQ250 with power management set to slow charge with batter installed.

Anyone have anything like this before?
