IQ380 vs IQ3 100 mp

Postby charlesa » Sat Mar 19, 2016 6:13 pm

Good afternoon

I am investing in a Phase One system and would like to ask what would be the relative advantages of choosing the 100 mp IQ3 100 CMOS sensor over the IQ3 380 80 mp CCD sensor. Aren't CCD sensors the reason why medium format is head and shoulders above 35 mm level cameras?

System will mostly be used for studio work, as well as architectural long exposure work.

Best,

C

Hi

The short version is:
100mp = CMOS
80mp = CCD

CMOS advantage is:
*Better high ISO performance
*Much better live preview (1 to 2fps vs 30fps)
* HDMI video output.

If above is nothing you care about since you shooting in studio and never use live preview, then there isn't that big advantage of the 100mp compared to 80mp

Thank you for your response. So basically CCD image quality is still better than CMOS, provided one does not need high ISO performance or live view.

Charles, if you are located in the United States we would be glad to make appointment with you in person or remotely, to review raw file samples, technical specifications, and workflow pros and cons of each option. We have over 30gb of tests we have done in house to compare the 80mp and 100mp options specifically for architecture...

If you were located outside of United States, I would suggest checking with your local phase one dealer .

Thank you Doug, unfortunately I am based in Europe, and there is no Phase One dealer in my country.
