Who needs a lens shutter if you have a digital back ?

Recently I have bought an used Lightphase and an adapter to fit the digital back to my Linhof Kardan Bi System (4x5 large camera).

Actually I'm using the mechanical lens shutter but I'm wondering if I really need this since with a little interface (parallel or USB port )and a little software I can trigger the digital back to make the acquisition ot the image , with 1/1000 second precision.

Obviously the interface could be also done totally independent from the pc and just put on the top of the scan back , a little led display, two buttons, nothing really difficult, but since my scan back works only tethered to the pc I will create a pc interface.

Is there any reason why it would be better not to choose this solution ?

Yes you need a shutter since the back require that shutter is closed during readout from the CCD. You can try without but you will get some "funky" images.
