Connection Leaf Aptus II-7 (firewire)

Hi,

I have a question regarding connecting old digital back to newer computers.

I have a Leaf II-7 (contaxt 645 mount) that I currently use with my 2008 macbook pro or my iMac which both have firewire 800 port.
My macbook pro is approaching its last breath and I'll probably have to get a new one soon... (might be going back to pc).

In any case they will not have firewire port.. nor Thunder 2.

all new hardware have thunderbolt 3 ports.... what are the option(s)?. I read thread talking about firewire hub but can't find any precise info.

Hi

As far as we can see right now there is no option.
You have to get a computer which at least have a Thunderbolt 2 port OR upgrade to Leaf Credo back which have USB port.

I have bougt an apple adapter firewire 800 to tunderboldt and from thunderbolt to usb-c for the MacBook Pro late 2016.
This way doesn't't work also. Is there any update coming?

There is no update we can make in this regard.
A converter to a converter to a converter is simply to far stretched in order to make it work.

The options will be

Upgrade the back to one that has USB (Credo)

or

Downgrade the computer

I apologize for my late post. But I have also had this issue with an Aptus-II 7. The problem with Thunderbolt-to-Firewire800 is bus power. The Thunderbolt port does not provide enough, and the Aptus depends on bus power when the battery is removed. My solution was to purchase a Kramer Tools VS-30FW (I think VS-40FW is latest model) Firewire hub. It did not come with the optional power brick, but I had a 1500mA 12V brick from another device that works just as well. The power from the brick into the Kramer augments the tiny Thunderbolt bus power, and is more than enough to power the Aptus. Just take care to power the Kramer first, then plug into the iMac second, then Aptus third.

BTW, I found the older model Kramer VS-30FW on eBay, NIB for $39.99. The VS-40FW is slightly more expensive. The only difference I can tell is 3 ports vs 4 ports.
