Mamiya DM28 not recognized in C1 Pro 9 or Leaf Capture

I'm new to the forum and I look forward to participating. I have an issue I can't seem to solve. I have a Mamiya DM28 on a Mamiya 645AFD. I'm running a 2007 24" iMac with El Capitan. The firewire 800 port only puts out 7w of power, so I picked up a Nitro AV Firewire 800 hub/repeater. I am NOT using the Mamiya 800 to 800 firewire cable just a generic cable that happens to fit into the DM28's firewire opening. When I plug the back into the firewire hub/repeater (hub plugged into iMac) I get power to the back but I cannot get the back recognized (it doesn't show). That happens in both C1 Pro 9 and Leaf Capture. Does it all boil down to not using the Mamiya branded 800 to 800 firewire cable? If not, any thoughts on what's happening (not happening)? I have selected the right camera in C1 Pro. I searched the forum but couldn't find any answers to this specific issue.
