H25 Firewire to Thunderbolt

Postby fotogme11 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 11:10 pm

I have been using an H25 with Firewire 400 port for the past ten years. I'm currently using a Firewire 400 to 800 cable to connect it to a four year old MacBook Pro. In the next few months, I plan to buy a new MacBook Pro, and would like to know the best workable arrangement for connecting Firewire 400 to Thunderbolt. Does anybody have any experience with this?
Thanks, Greg

Use a 400-800 cable and a Firewire Hub that is externally powered with a 800-800 cable between the Apple Adaptor and Firewire Hub.

Hi Drew, I see from your last reply to this issue in January that there's a way to keep the H25 backs current with the latest Macs.
Couple of questions:
Can I use a 15' Firewire 400 (6 pin)> Firewire 800 (9 pin) cable and the Apple 800>Thunderbolt adapter without using an external port?

Please read this article.
Short answer is no since a H25 does not have onboard power option and the thunderbolt does not provide enough power
