EXPECTED IMPROVEMENTS FOR FUTURE 645DF++

Postby el santo » Wed Apr 09, 2014 4:58 pm

Hi,
I acquired a Mamiya 645DF+ and an IQ250 two months ago, it's a very good system, yet there's a couple of things I'd love to see improved in the future:
It would be great to have a removable/clippable viewfinder in order to be able to shoot while framing from above and to be able to change the viewfinder glass: there's only one available for the IQ250 and it would be great to have another one with the area out of the frame darkened (IQ250 is not "full frame").
So far these are my main concerns, and what I'm looking for to get in the next Mamiya 645DF++, along with a true focus button but this is less important to me than the removable viewfinder. Battery life, both for the back and the camera could be a bit longer also.
What about you? Please post your own thoughts about this.

Both a 90 degree clip on finder and a separate paper mask which would couple with any other Mamiya 645AFD compatible focus screen are *already* available. Consult with your dealer.

Thanks Doug. Actually I meant to be able to remove the whole viewfinder in order to be able to use a full frame glass like on a Mamiya RZ. I'll check that out though.

I use the 90 degree clip on finder and it's pretty good, not as good as the chimney style finder I used to have for my film Hassie, but not terrible either. After two or three shoots you get used to it and it gets the job done. It's an accessory I'd recommend for any studio/macro photographer.

Would be good to improve the depth of field button which is always bugging and hardly working on every bodies.

Move the button to take out the lens from the side of the body to the front, because sometimes on still life if you are in vertical mode and want to take out the lens you almost have no access to it due to the support of the tripode. Would be much easier in front, such as almost any cameras.

Would be nice to be able to read the custom functions properly, and not with numbers. This system is good for digitechs who are supposed to know everything from a camera, but it does not simplify the use of the camera and does not helps to resolve problems quickly...

AEL button is too small, especially for fashion photographers.

And the minimum would be to make the next camera more reliable, no blocking mirror, no weird problems of battery and shutter. Would be time to have a body at the same level of the digital backs, for now, in some situations, many customers ask to have an Hasselblad because they think it's more reliable....

It would be nice to be able to use Zeiss lenses ( Hasselblad) on 645DF+ and their supplied adapter in Av mode!! Even, as suggested by Phaseone rep, the P mode will overexpose the Image. It would be great to have these limitations eliminated.

I am new to Mamiya 645DF+. I own Zeiss Otus lenses (55mm and 85mm) for Nikon mount. Can anyone please tell me what adapter can be used for the Mamiya 645DF+ to use these lenses.

Kind regards,

Raghu

I am not sure, but I don't ever recall an adapter that would go from a 35mm to a MF mount. I think the image circle would be to small to cover the MF sensor. I have seen MF to other mounts, most of these turn the lens into a fully manual lens.

I think all buttons and even the display are toooooooo smallllllll so in the field hardly useable like self-timer and AEX buttons and clumsy to. For this camera's the quality should be expected to be close to Canon or Nikon DSLR's bud it is not even close.
