Mamiya V Grip Air - External AC adapter

Postby Peter A. » Mon Jun 18, 2012 9:28 am

I haven't used the Mamiya V Grip Air, so does anybody know if it can be connected with an External AC adapter?
I know the Mamiya 645 DF body (without the grip) has an external AC adapter connection, but being able to power the V Grip externally would mean that the Profoto Air Remote could operate without the need for battery.

There is a Canon battery charger called the Ch-910.

It comes with a coupler that is a dummy battery that connect to the charger and the charger doubles as a power supply.

You can either connect the power supply to your AC or you can mount two large 900 Canon series batteries on to the charger body.

The dummy battery is slimmer than the standard battery so I'm not positive if it will lock in the V-grip.

It does lock nicely onto Phase One P series backs.

Here is a photo of it:

You can find these on ebay quite cheap.

Looking at this ... it looks like it might just lock into place. Worst case you may have to modify the "dummie" battery.
Add a little block on the thin end so that it engages the little locking clip

It's probably better not to work with the DF attached to the mains AC power.

Would be best to use the CH-910 as an external battery array.

You could attach two of these and work for days
