Mamiya AFDII and 2.8/55 AF lens

Postby NNN637500330146866050 » Sat Feb 27, 2021 2:43 pm

I have obtained a 55mm 2.8 AF lens which I am using on an AFDII body with a ZD back. The AF seems to work fine as long as I do not focus within about 1 metre. The focus type is set by a switch on the camera.

Once I have focused within a metre I can usually take just one shot and then the camera displays "MF" and aperture "--", suggesting the body has somehow lost contact with the lens, The lens cannot be focused as the switch is still on AF-S; switching to MF and back does not fix the problem. The only way I have found to clear this issue is to turn the camera off, set the switch to MF, focus the lens at infinity, switch back to AF, and then turn the camera on.

The vendor indicated that the lens had Phase One firmware.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Does it mean the lens is likely to be defective, could it just be a bad contact in the lens, or is it likely to be a firmware issue with either body not being compatible with the les=ns, or not with the lens with Phase One firmware?

I've since found that the AF works fine if the battery is removed from the ZD back. Is it possible that the AF problem at short distances is somehow caused by a fault with the back?

Hi

I would suggest that you contact support and we might be help you to troubleshoot.
I should mention just if any one reads this thread that there is no such thing as a "Phase One" or "Mamiya" lens firmware.
There is only one lens firmware for the lenses sold under the Phase One or Mamiya brand for the lenses was branded both.
