Help, new user cannot remove crop!

Postby NNN637089986342546221 » Thu Dec 05, 2019 6:44 pm

I'm new to Capture One, and I'm having a strange issue. Once I crop an image, I cannot remove the crop. Pressing the reset button does nothing, clicking off the cropped area on the preview does nothing. This behavior is present on two different machines (MacBook pro and iMac). So, clearly, I'm missing something obvious, unless there is a huge bug somehow no one has noticed. I'm running 12.1.4. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Did you apply the crop or was it automatically applied as part of a lens correction process?

I thought I applied it myself, but this has happened a number of times, so I'm not sure. How would I know if it was automatically applied?

You appear to be right. ON the cropped images, it's the distortion slider that has been set to 100. I did not set that myself and it is not set on other images, even some photographed with the same lens. Is it just a random default preset, is that number chosen automatically based on the particular image? Thanks in advance!

It depends on the lens and its settings.

And the source of the correction data - manufacturer more and more often these days but also the C1 team historically or if they feel they can offer a useful alternative assessment.

Typically wide angles are more likely to require geometric correction than primes (although colour and other things are also part of the assessment) or longer lenses.

Zooms will often show correction for the shorter end (assuming that is wider than around 50mm or so but no hard rule) whilst at the longer end optical correction is less likely to be required.

Many factors are assessed, probably too many to be concerned about unless you have a very specific interest!
