Body keeps trying to focus behind infinity (rel C224)

Postby flashsplash » Mon Dec 30, 2013 10:09 am

Hi,

Description
While shooting outside architecture with auto focus, the camera can not be triggered (shutter release) when focusing on the infinite blue sky. The lens tries to zoom but has reached the infinity (or end of focus) and the camera continues tries to force the lens to go past that point. You can hear it on the lens and when looking at the focus distance indicator on the lens you see small movements around the infinity symbol.

Settings
-Manual Mode
-AF
-Leaf shutter lens and active (80mm SK lens)
-F16
-1/250
-Iso 50
-Normal factory default settings body
-Firmware C224
- S or single focus mode

Occurrence
This problem can be repeated every time, just aim at the sky and you will notice the problem.

Work around
None , except working manual focus.

Has anybody seen this before, or is this a potential bug in C224 ?

If there is nothing to focus on, such as there would not be in a blue sky, then autofocus has nothing to lock to.. thus cannot fire. The solution is to with the lens to MF, or find something of detail to focus on.

Thanks John,

That kind of makes sense, yet my point is still "while the lens has moved to the infinity marker, why not just feed back that position to the body so that the body stops driving the lens ? " .

I don't want to get into an argument , but all my DSLR's have no issue with this . They focus onto infinity (even on a blue sky) and when the lens has reached that position (max) then it is flagged and I can shoot.

Maybe a feature request ?

KInd regards,

Steve
