WHY the Difference between SAME Image - LR vs COP20??

Postby NNN637141942559535229 » Fri Jan 10, 2020 9:34 am

so i hear good things about Capture One and i start to learn the software when i'm hit with a MAJOR difference between Lightroom.

the images i'm including here are shot with a fujifilm xh1. these have not been edited and yet the Capture One image adds this weird color to the image, like an odd vignette or something. i shot this with the XF23mmf2 which had the hood on. All my images from this day are like that.

can someone please tell me the WHY behind this? also, how is it easily remedied in Capture One? i played with white balance settings before this post and that didn't do anything. this vignetting is still there via Capture One.

*i'm selecting preview on this post, but i don't see my image in the preview...may need to copy & paste to see

thank you!

I see the difference you describe but can only guess what happens, for example, film simulation (Base Characteristics tool, Curve setting).

If that is not the case, could you perhaps share a raw file? Or you open a support case.

both of those images i posted are as is straight out of each program. no filter or simulation used on the cam or in software.

i don't have access to the .RAF file at the moment, however i have the .DNG:

thank you for your help on this :)

Out of interest what are the settings shown in the Lens correction tool?

In particular has the correct lens been identified and what amount of correction, if any, is shown for the sliders?

You would probably need the RAW file rather than a DNG to answer that. (Also what is the source of the DNG?)

I got a jpg file from the download link.

Are you trying to say that you opened the DNG in Capture One instead of the .RAF file? If that is the case, try with the original RAF and tell us what you see.

thx guys for trying to help out here. it's def the DNG.

every .dng file has this, all the .raf files do not.

i don't understand this. the camera profile registers as the right cam, playing with those settings does nothing to this vignetting. the film simulation registered as standard and playing with those settings does nothing to the vignetting.

apparently capture one reads .dng files differently (?) than LR. don't get it. i know better going forward, just gotta use LR to edit these images with no .RAF file.

When you move from Lr to Capture One, you'd better use the original raw files, RAF in your case. DNG support is improved in Capture One 20 over its predecessor, in particular for native DNG RAW from cameras not explicitly supported, but working with converted DNG is still not preferred. Some have good results, some not.

This is not necessarily Capture One's official point of view, but mine based other user's experience and feedback on this forum and elsewhere.

This is a known bug in CO20 and was picked up very late in beta testing. It is seen in Fuji RAF files that have been converted to DNG where the picture was shot with wide angle and wide aperture lenses at larger apertures - these lenses exhibit quite severe vignetting if it is not corrected properly. I understand this problem will be corrected at the first dot release.
