CR2 files not showing in the import window

Postby xgaetx » Sun Jul 14, 2019 9:39 pm

Hello,

I have a problem when trying to import CR2 files in one of my catalog.
I imported pictures from various folders and all worked well but in one of the folder only a small numbers of CR2 files shows. I shot RAW+JPEG, all the jpgeg's show and some of the CR2 do. What is strange is that the count of pictures showing on the import window takes into account the cr2 files not showing and the CR2 not showing do open correctly in the windows picture viewer!
I tried to import all but it did not work, I tried to move the files into another folder, I tried to rename the files none of that worked.

Would you have an idea?
Thank you for you help.
Cheers

Which camera?

What settings are you using for the CR2 files?

These ones were Eos 80d and highest quality raw. The thing is that some cr2's from the same serie do show up.

That seems odd.

I'm not at all familiar with the 80D and its options.

When you say "the same series" are there any settings values that can change in the series?

For example the mRAW option is not supported.

Are there any common factors for the files that appear to fail import?

Hi Grant,

Sorry, when I said same serie, I meant taken during the same shooting. So the ones showing and the ones not showing have the same characteristics and were taken only few minutes interval between each other.

Then that seems very odd.

When you import do you run the check for duplicates?

Is it in any way possible that somehow you already have images with the same names as the CR2 files that do not import in the target catalogue? Or maybe some filter(s) applied that do not select those images for some reason? (That last seems unlikely but probably needs to be eliminated as a possible reason.)

If not, and you are sure that all of the images will share the same settings as images that DO import successfully, I would suggest that you create a Support Case with the Capture One Support team and have them take a look at the problem and especially the log files.

HTH.

Hi Grant,

Thanks for your reply.
The unchecked the check for duplicates when trying to import and I don't see any filter that would prevent the pictures to show.
I tried some more things including, renaming the file, trying on another computer (capture one 12.0.3) and try to import in a new session but still not working. There must be something wrong with the file I don't get it.
What is odd is that the pictures not showing are accounted by CO in the import window but they just simply do not show.

I'll try to contact support team.
Thank you

Very odd indeed, as I shoot a Canon 80D as well.

My usage of CO will seem odd to you, as I also use LR.

But I have never failed in getting CO to open and import cr2 files if I simply drag and drop a file using Windows File Explorer into an open window of CO.

Try that with one or two of the files that the regular import doesn't get. When you drop it, the import window should appear.

Hi Jim,

I tried that, the import bar shows but the import fails. i also tried to import all as the number of files showed by the import window is correct but that doesn't work either.
I'll get support to have a look.

Strange.
Stick a cr2 file in dropbox and send me the link. jimmsp AT aol.com
I'll try my CO, as well as LR.

I received the file just fine.

I downloaded it to a Win 10 folder. The Win 10 icon shows the thumbnail.

I dragged it to an open window in Capture One.
It failed – “failed to copy”.
First time I have had that problem with a cr2 file

I then sync’d the folder in Lightroom. No problem. I see the photo (nice shot btw)
Per EXIFs, it is a smaller raw file. Maybe that is the issue.

I opened Bridge. It opened in in camera Raw and then Photoshop - no problems.
From Bridge, I dragged it to another CO window, but it failed to copy.
Again, unusual.

Very strange behavior.

Are these files mRAW format?

If so the Camera Support list shows that mRAW files are not supported for the 80D. No note about sRAW though.

These are m-raw files; EXIFS reports 4500x3000 px which is a 80D mraw.

Thanks. I never even thought of that, as I only shoot full raw.

Hi,

Suport came back to me with the same conclusion. They must indeed be mRAW, I always shoot full RAW as well but for some reason a mishandling caused some of the pictures to be shooted mRAW. I will work myself around using Canon DPP to get some TIFF I will then import in C1.

Thank you both for your help.
Cheers
