CO 12.1 - Issues with Canon EOS R

Postby NN634841050945276060UL » Sat Jun 15, 2019 10:12 am

Hello everybody,

I just returned from a 1 month trip from Australias North and while editing the photos I encountered a strange behaviour.
It looks like CO12.1 has issues with encoding of (only some) raws of the EOS R.
They have strange red and green "boxes".

If I open these Images with Canon Photo Professional everything is ok.
It is also not a card fault because it happened with different cards.
About 5 out of 1000 photos are affected.

There are no such issues with the 5D Mark IV I also had with me.

Any ideas what this coud be?

Thanks & br

Martin

Hi Martin,

Are these affected pictures taken in dual-pixel mode ?
Cheers,

The usual first test would be to turn "Use Hardware Acceleration" off to see if that makes any difference.

If is does try getting C1 to rebuild the kernel for your GPU in C1.

If it does not help then I would suggest you create a Support Case and discuss the problem with the Capture One Support Team.

Hi Grant,

I deactivated OpenCL acceleration completely.
Does not change anything...

I have already opened a support case.

thanks anyway

Hmm.

Have you tried deleting the Settings Folder files and Cache folder files for the 5 problem images you mentioned and then re-adding them to the session?

Also, take a look through the thumbnails and previews to see if you can spot any obviously incorrect version of those fioles (which are created as part of the import process if you have imported or 'on-the-fly' if you have simply navigated to a folder in the session.

If something has gone wrong during those importing processes the .cos (or a single .cos) file may be 'bad' in some way and may need to be replaced.

Using WIndows I had a once only situation back in V7 day were there were strange events going on editing a session. By chance I discovered a bad looking thumbnail as I was working through the images (but a long way from the problem file working sequentially) . I could not successfully regenerate the thumbnail so deleted the edit files (.cos and maybe others) for the image and re-edited and all was well.

I suspect it was a file write problem at the system file storage level and a bad Windows index. The problem it caused was that C1 would crash every 10 or so images during editing. Deleting and recreating fixed the edit and I have never seem anything like that happen again.

Your description seems to be a completely different problem but there are some similarities that might make it wirth taking the time for the suggested check.

Of you could simply re-import to a new session to see if you get the same problem. Which ever you think might be the quickest option.

I had a similar problem with an aging flash memory card. In my case the artifact only showed itself while adjusting the HDR sliders and then only for a few images and only irregularly. The artifact was actually a ghost of another nearby image. The artifact dd not appear on the thumbnail or at full screen or if I zoomed in. If you observe these, it could be your memory card has a problem. My problem was solved by changing to another memory card.

Hi everybody,

thanks for your input.

fyi: this effect is visible on images from several SD cards and I don't think that they're all going to die (one is actually brand new).

So let's see what my support case brings to light...
