Attaching Lee filters to Schneider 240mm LS BR

Postby Denverphotoscapes » Sun Dec 18, 2016 4:37 am

I have the Schneider 240mm f/4.5 LS Blue Ring lens. The lens is a 86mm filter size and a build-in lens hood. The lens hood extends out over the lens just enough so that the Lee 86mm adapter for the 100mm filters will not work. Tried the Lee SW150 86mm screw-on adapter and the same problem.

Looks like a filter adapter with a deeper filter adapter is required or the hood will have to be removed.

Normal screw-on filters will work fine since they fit inside the lens hood.

Has anyone got any ideas on a solution. Thanks.

The guys over on Luminous Landscape posted information on using a 86mm spacer to get out past the lens hood. Here are the links they gave me. I ordered off eBay and it came to $14.59 including shipping.

I use 86-82mm and 82-77mm step up rings . Using two rings gives me a little more clearance and I chose the 77mm size since I already owned that Lee 100 system adapter. I recommend using a drop of thread locking compound between the two rings so they come off as a unit - getting a single ring off can be a challenge.

How did that spacer from ebay work out for you? Solve the issue? Whats the final setup like?

I purchased the 86mm spacer ring from eBay and it works fine. Just checked and he still has them for sale.

The spacer normally sits on the Lee Filter adapter but for a photo I put it on the lens to show the spacing. I added a photo here. Good luck and this is a fantastic lens.
