Electronic shutter and flash

Postby Paqart » Mon Oct 24, 2016 2:16 pm

Is it possible to use ES and flash on the XF-100MP? I tried this yesterday without luck, so I switched to LS and that worked fine.

Hi

It is possible, but it is a big sensor which have to be read and all flash have to be drained before reading out.
So sync speed is not very high. In fact the shortest sync time is 1.3 seconds.
You can see in the display of the XF body when flash sync is available as you get a little flash icon in the display.

Doug thanks for the information.

When using the ES the first capture has a click. The next captures have no sound. If I change the shutter speed the next capture has a click and the others are completely silent.

If I change the aperture between captures there is no clicking.

I am shooting with the mirror up. This is not a problem, just wondering what is getting set on the first capture and subsequent captures.

The click is the shutter closing to allow for black calibration. After the black calibration is completed we continue to use it until shutter speed changes, ISO changes or there is sufficient heat build up to require a new one. The purpose of black calibration is to remove noise buildup due to heat.
