Reinstate image deleted from disc

I accidentally deleted an image from disc.
No problem, everything is backed up well, so I mounted my backup drive and dragged the image back to the corresponding folder on the working drive.
When I try to import that image, it appears in the import window as black with the file details underneath. I cannot click on it to select it or anything. I also tried navigating to the backed-up image on the backup drive - with the same result.
I have a Time Machine backup of the catalogue, but it's 64GB. That seems like a lot of copying to get one image back!
How can I import that image again please?
Andy

You could tell us some more.

Did you delete the image from Capture One or via Finder?
Is the image file back up to the external drive a file copy or done with backup software?
Can you restore the image file from the Time Machine backup? Only the image, not the whole 64GB.

Apologies for the lack of information. You're quite right, I should have been more specific.
Using an iMac Pro (Mojave 10.14.2).

I deleted the file from disc using Ctrl+Cmd+Backspace within Capture One.

Is the image file back up to the external drive a file copy or done with backup software?

Cloned with "SuperDuper".

Can you restore the image file from the Time Machine backup? Only the image, not the whole 64GB.

The image is stored externally, not within the Catalogue file, so restoring from Time Machine would't help.

BUT!
I used Photoshop to convert the .tiff file to a highest quality jpeg - and I was able to reimport it. However, when I tried simply renaming the .tiff file (with Finder), the importer didn't see it.
Thanks for your help.

So it's a TIFF file?

What sort of TIFF specification?

Is this version of the file the same as the one that was successfully edited previously?

No idea (sorry). I thought a TIFF was a TIFF. Never had problems with TIFF files before.

Yes. It's a clone of the original.

I should add that the TIFF file opens perfectly in other applications. As I mentioned above, I used Photoshop to make (the backup TIFF) into a JPEG and then Capture One imported that file.

The purpose of my question was to find out what workflow I should use to reimport a previously deleted file.
Is this possible, please?
