Power over Ethernet laptop setup recommendations

Postby JJJInc » Tue Dec 11, 2018 6:10 am

Hello Phase,

I'm wondering if there are any recommendations for achieving a streamlined power over ethernet solution for the new 4150? I want to keep a small footprint and the amount of peripherals needed to a minimum.

I'm hoping that it doesn't require a separate box and power supply.
What specs will I need the laptop to satisfy? A full sized port? Will a USB-C to Ethernet dongle work?

I want to know what will work for when I rent.

Thanks,
JJ

afaik PoE is a feature of switches, not of laptops.

Hi

Power over Ethernet is something that is a part of switches and external devices and not something that any computer provides.
However there is small devices which you can plug in between the laptop and the IQ4 back to provide the power.
Just try a google search for Power over Ethernet.

P.s, Its still a user to user forum so create a support case if you need a fast reply from Phase One.

Even if you have a power injector you will need a DHCP server running on your laptop give the IQ4 an IP address. There are options in capture one camera settings when tethered via usb to assign a static IP address. Not sure how well this works

I use a ubiquity US-8-60W 8 port mini poe switch to power my IQ4, I combine it with a POE access point for wifi for capture one pilot and a POE 4g modem to give internet and DHCP server. This means I can power everything from one power outlet for the switch. I have found my IPAD is very unreliable without internet and will just disconnect from the wifi. This is the main reason for the 4g modem...
