Question about viewfinder and resulting Image

Postby NNN634998450414922245 » Mon Feb 26, 2018 1:48 am

Hello!

I just purchased a Phaseone IQ350 w/bluering 80mm and the 120mm macro and I'm loving it, I'm still exploring the camera but I had a very basic question and I apologize if this has been answered already.

why Is it that when I look through my viewfinder, When shooting with the 80mm and capturing a full body shot I'm seeing a larger area of the Image and when the resulting tethered Image comes through on C1, I'm losing about 25% of the image on all sides? (It's not cropped from the crop tool either).

I don't recall this happening on other medium formats like the Fuji, is it because of the digital back and space from the lens to the sensor?

Thank you for any help!

Doesn't the viewfinder show the image of a full frame sensor?
The IQ350 has a cropped sensor with the factor of 1.3.

Hi

If you do not have the mask for the cropped sensor then contact the Phase One partner from whom you purchased the equipment to get this.
Kind Regards

so I should contact Samys camera? It's not the cropped sensor factor of 1.3 that I'm seeing but something else?

I don't have the mask for the cropped sensor, I'm assuming you are talking about in Capture one.

I'm referring to even looking at the image on the back of the digital back, it shows up as a cropped image.

If I am understanding you correctly, the resulting image is cropped. If that is true, it is because the 40MP & 50MP backs are cropped (in the sense of 645 medium format digital), so the resulting image would be cropped also. The Phase One XF has two (2) different viewfinder focus masks. One (1) for the full frame sensor (60MP, 80MP and 100MP; all roughly 54mm x 40.4 ish) backs and one (1) for the cropped sensor backs (40MP & 50MP; both roughly 44mm x 33mm).

The IQ3 50MP should have the viewfinder focusing mask that have a cropped line (it shows in the viewfinder as a faint line bordering the image) on the viewfinder itself. My dealer, Digital Transitions, had to swap out the full frame viewfinder focusing mask with the cropped one at the Point Of Sale with my Credo 40, XF kit.

You can purchase a cropped mask from retail. SKU: 70726 @ Samy's Camera, Digital Transitions and/or Capture Integration.

Hope this helps.

Sa'd

That's exactly what it was, I had the wrong focusing screen on my camera that was sent from Phaseone.

Thank you all for being so responsive, I appreciate it.
