IQ4 issues list

Postby steffenjahn » Thu May 23, 2019 9:51 am

Dear co-shooters,

after upgrading my IQ3 100 to a IQ4 150 I realized that the new back is far from being work-ready. It feels more like a beta that will use the famed Infinity-platform to add step by step the functionality that we are used from the IQ3 and the marketed but not implemented features.

Let me share my list of issues and feel free to jump in and add your hick-ups.
( Most of these are already have a PhaseOne-ticket - but there is no timing if or when this will be solved / introduced ).

- Unreliable battery status in back ( shows high level of battery charge - while battery is (near ) empty in reality
- No battery status within C1 when shooting tethered ( XF and tech camera )
- bracketing with ES on tech cameras is not available ( although marketed on P1 website )
- zero latency is missing ( due to energy hungry sensor )
- charging via USB3 is not possible
- no Capture Pilot integration
- no exposure zones displayed in shot image
- direct access to SD / XQD via cable ( USB-C / USB3 ) is not possible
- shooting untethered directly onto an USB-C HD is not possible
- changing the battery with connected USB-cable ( tetehred to C1 ) ends in a complete crash of camera and computer
- ready-beep is missing
- frame averaging still missing
- bulls eye level in back is not user-adjustable

Worried and sad that PhaseOne is not any longer the "quality company" - Steffen

Just a few points

Charging is possible via USB is possible, my anker PowerCore+ 20100 USB-C works fine

Direct access to the memory cards isn't going to happen, you can only have one exclusive access to storage in a high performance system. Sharing it would seriously slow the back down... and.. the back came with a free memory card reader... use it.. :D

;) Charging while shooting tethered with USB3 to be precisely does not work.

Some of these issues have now been addressed in the latest firmware, including ready beep and exposure zone tool. Phase One still has many other IQ4 bugs and features to fix and install though!

Other missing features (but please correct me):

—No counter to show exposure lime in seconds when in B or T on a technical camera

—No ability to set the focal length of the lens in image data

—There is a DT video showing focus masking turned on but I cannot see anything in the manuals about this.

—Manuals do not cover all the menu options or all the settings:

——What is "Viewfinder mode", for example?

——What does Focus peaking threshold of "500" mean? This was the setting on my back when I received it but should it be 10 or 850? I don't know what the number means.

——What is the moon symbol on the Camera Controls screen for?

——What is the self-timer symbol on the Camera Controls screen for?

——The diagrams in the manual refer to the four buttons around the screen as "keys" but that phrase is not used in the text when explaining anything.

I use my back exclusively on a technical camera and I think there should be a dedicated manual for the back itself.

The IQ4-150 represents a technological leap forward in the IQ digital back series, now using a Linux based operating system UPSers Login, the mini-computer backing the BSI 151mp sensor is 10x as powerful as the hardware running the proprietary operating system.
