Light Phase 2.6 (July 2001) support

Postby albert111 » Sun Oct 19, 2008 10:10 pm

Hello,

I've bought a second hand LightPhase (i.e. older than H5?) digital back from another photographer, and obtained a Mac version Light Phase 2.6 (July 2001 version). The serial number of my back starts with BB02####.

Will this digital back work on any 6-pin firewire connector (i.e. PCI/Firewire-card in my desktop PC)? Or do I need to buy a Mac desktop/laptop to get this digital back working for me?

I don't have a Mac, and have been a PC user. If this digital back does not require a Mac, can you mail me a CD copy of the same Light Phase 2.6 software (but for Windows 2000/XP) so that I can use the LightPhase digital back with my Hassy 500 C/M camera?

Finally, if I need to email someone in the technical support group directly, can you please provide his/her name and email address to me via email? (I've found the new technical support environment to be very confusing).

Thank you in advance for your help, I look forward to hear from you.

Yours sincerely,
Al

Hi Al,

Just create a support case at support.phaseone.com and we can give you a DB Product key... If you have XP you can also download Capture One 4.5 and run in DB mode.

Hi Ulf and Jon,

Thank you very much for your feedback, and I'm sorry for the long time elapse (from my last question post).
I've installed both the Mac/Win versions of Light Phase 2.6 and the win32 version of CaptureOne6, and I still have problem connecting the digital back and the software.

Basically I just launched the software after installation, and connected the LightPhase digital back to the computer with the firewire cable. 2 solid green lights (both left and right side, top row) are lighted up. Both left and right side bottom row LEDs are not lighted up.

(background info regarding my old desktop PC)
I've plugged in a non-brand-name combo PCI card that has both USB2.0 and 6-pin firewire connectors, the firewire description indicates it supports IEEE 1394-1995, P1394a(rev.1.1), and OHCI (rev.1.0)

From the mac version of LIght Phase 2.6 on a G3 laptop (with 700MHz CPU and 384MB RAM):
connection shows "no connection" at the fireware port

From the windows version of Light Phase 2.6 on an old desktop (with single core AMD CPU and 512MB RAM):
message in bottom right hand corner dialog box indicates software is waiting for connection and confirmation from digital back

From the win32 version of CaptureOne6 on the same old desktop (with single core AMD CPU and 512MB RAM):
Under "Capture" (camera icon), on the left hand side, with "Camera" tab...
the field "camera" is populated with message "No camera attached"

Can you give me some advice on how to debug the connection between the software and the digital back?

Thank you in advance for your help, and I look forward to hear from you.

Yours sincerely,
Al

Hello,

Has any of you encountered this problem of not having the software (i.e. light phase image capture ver2.6 or CaptureOne v6) recognizes the connection to the digital back? I'm trying to get my setup working, which includes an old Hasselblad 500CM body with a phase one "light phase" digital back (and it's corresponding software "light phase 2.6")

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely,
Al

Al,
I have an H20 (V fit on RZ67) which I think behaves similarly, so...

When you say the SW isn't recognising the back, I presume you have it connected via the firewire, and capture One is running. Do the green LEDs on the back light up? Does it beep when you connect the firewire cable?

If not, then it sounds like the back isn't getting power. (or possibly isn't getting enough power)

I have had the odd case where the back isn't recognised even though the LEDs are on, and it seems to be related to a long firewire cable (possibly not in the best of health). Ususllay when I unplug then replug the cable the problem goes away.

Hi Mark,

Thank you very much for your help and technical advice.

It turns out the software driver wasn't installed properly. After this is corrected, the digital back beeps.
(The green lights have been on even before driver was installed)

And it's now working!!! I've finally captured my first picture with the LightPhase digital back.
(It's a wonderful feeling to get my dad's camera work again... after 17 years...)
Thank you.

Yours sincerely,
Al

Hi Al,

did you manage to get the back recognized on the Mac? If so, how did you "reinstall the driver"? Reason I'm asking is that I try to use a H 20 on a Mac. Both lights are green, Capture One is running but saying "no camera" and "About this mac" tells me there is an "unknown firewire device" connected. So it seems some sort of driver is missing, but I have no idea how to install them on a Mac.

Same back works perfectly on a Windows Laptop, though :?:

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Cheers,

Herbert

Hi Herbert,

I still can't get it working on my ibook. But fortunately, I've got it working with CaptureOne 6; hence I'm using my PC for my LightPhase control instead of my ibook.

Sorry that I can't give you more help on this topic. But you might want to contact PhaseOne customer support. I've got advice w.r.t. PC setup between my LightPhase back and CaptureOne software.

BTW, how did you manage to get it working with your Windows laptop? Do you have a 6-pin firewire interface on your laptop? I have to use my desktop because of the 6-pin firewire requirement. Can you share with me on your laptop/H20 setup (i.e. hardware and software)?

Best of luck with your setup.

Regards,
Al

Hi Al,

thanks for your answer. I have a Siemens Esprimo V5505 (quite old, not too powerful :-)) Win XP, Capture One 6.1 and a LogiLink PC0036A Firewire card http://www.logilink.eu/showproduct/PC0036A.htm with an external power supply - works like a charm...

Cheers,

Herbert

Hi Herbert,

Thank you for the weblink to your logilink firewire card. I'll look into it more.
BTW, what kind of external power supply do you use for your H20 setup?
(Sorry, I'm a newbie with digital back and setup)

Thanks,
Al

I use an ordinary power supply - I picked mine up at the local equivalent to radio shack. It's important that it delivers 12V, at least 1500mA and has the right plug. Mine came with a collection of plugs, one of which fits it the power connector of the LogiLink firewire card.

Make sure that you get the negative and positive pole right when connecting the power supply to the the firewire card - and thus to your digital back.

Cheers,

Herbert

Hi Herbert,

Thank you very much for sharing your power supply info with me; as I wasn't sure what kind of external power supply I might need to connect to my card/back in case I want to try out laptop.

Hope you'll have a wonderful weekend.

Yours truly,
Al
