Leaf Valeo 22 goes orange but won't connect

Postby NN635349182475028800UL » Sat Feb 13, 2016 10:00 pm

HI
I have a Leaf Valeo 22 goes orange but won't connect. It was working fine in portable mode with the DP-67/ Ipaq , the Ipaq battery gave out suddenly , so I switched to tethered by firewire 400 on a G-4 mac using Capture 11.5 but it would not connect with the back either. Previously the G-4 worked fine too. I've tried reinstalling Dp67 and Capture and checked all cables . The cables are working but none of this solved the problem. Has anyone got anything else I can try?

Hi
With a Valeo you have to use 32bit version of LC which can be downloaded here

The 64bit version will not connect.
Beyond this it should be strait forward.
Check System report that the computer sees the back.

Hi ULF:
I've been running the 32 bit version since pretty much the beginning. That does not remedy the problem. The re-installed software was also 32 bit. So no solution. I think the firewire port is the problem.Probably it needs replacement. I've been quoted $3,500 USD before taxes and shipping to do that by B3K in Toronto. Since the back is worth far less than that on the used market I am now going to attempt replacing it myself. As I have some background in electronics (admittedly old, I started working with the first generation Texas Instruments 555 timer chips). It's something I believe I can do and clearly no risk since repair options are severely limited. Anyway I've been taking a shot at it and the back is successfully disassembled. Now I can see the firewire port clearly and yes it has a problem (mechanical in nature) the soldering where the pins meet the board seems intact. I also note a 3V lithium ion battery buried within the 3 stacked boards which my volt meter measures as dead. I'll replace that, reassemble, carefully grounding myself as I work. Hopefully it will work. It's worth the effort as the image quality is superb even by today's SLR standards and I like working with my Hasselblad V systems bodies and lenses.Let you know how it goes.

The back has been reassembled. The firewire port has been repaired. A new battery installed replacing the internal onboard 3V lithium battery.Currently the orange light comes on rapidly and the start up "beeps" occur each time it is plugged in.The fan runs indicating that the power is there (light too) and also indicates that power is running through the circuit boards. There is no longer an intermittent problem getting power to the back (before the orange light did not always come on).I've downloaded Ulf's software , installed it and tried connecting with the back. All cables checked again and working. Can't connect in portable mode with an Ipaq either. Is there a firmware reset or hardware reset button on these backs to return them to factory loaded settings?

Thanks ULF:
As I mentioned in my original posting,I have contacted my local Mamiya Leaf partner. This is B3K in Toronto Canada. When I was unable to fix the problem doing the usual cable switching, software reboots, installations, platform changes etc., I had them quote on the repair. I thought it would be a reasonably priced repair for this vintage of back ($500-$1,500). Much to my surprise I was quoted $3,500 USD not including shipping or taxes. This quote was produced without a technician ever looking at the back. Given the prevalent prices and current value of a Leaf Valeo 22 back I will not be repairing the back. Thanks for your assistance.
