old PhotoPhase 4x5 back

Postby NNN634725455565012569 » Sun May 13, 2012 9:56 pm

Hi - I was just given a one of these plus Cambo, w/Majestic camera stand :D :D . But will it work? Does anyone still use a PhotoPhase, and if so with what computer? The manual suggests Windows 95 or Mac OS 7.5.3. I have a G4 in storage, not sure if it'll run 7.5.3, I'm guessing no. (??) Any suggestions on best OS? Thanks! - Nick

Hi

You have two options.

1. Mac OS, works up to Mac OS 9.2.2 (Not Mac OS X)
2. Windows, works with all versions of windows that runs Adaptec ASPI drivers, in other words up to Windows XP

Software is available here:

OK - I now have a 9.2/tiger hd working in the g4. Phase one software opens but preview button is greyed out, and blinking. Only response I get from software is by clicking camera icon, then a window pops up saying camera is either not on, or plugin is missing. Camera has not off/on switch, and power supply has illuminated green light. Plugin floder is listed, with camera listed within it, inside Phase One application folder. Should those plugins go anywhere else?? Also, I think scsi card is working properly. It is brand new. And although it doesn't actually say scsi in the system profiler, I did move it from slot 3 to 4, and profiler does recognize that a pci slot activity has switched from slot 3 to 4. Maybe I need a driver for the card, so I'm waiting for my mac sales person to email me one tomorrow that I can open in 9.2. (9.2 forbids downloading driver via stuffit expander, as stuffit only now supports os x). So - Greyed out preview, ideas?? Thanks! Nick

First thing, it sounds like you are running "Classic" mode. Is this correct?
If so it will never work. You have to run Mac OS 9.2 in native mode.
IN other words you must boot up in Mac OS 9.2, you can not run it emulated under Mac OS X

Second is that the only supported card on Mac OS is the Adaptec 2906
Here is drivers for it http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/downloads/ ... +2906.html

On Windows we allow 2904 to be used as well.

The only supported card is 2906? I just got an Photophase+ 4x5 back, and it came whit a Adaptec 1480 Slim SCSI card. So this does not work?

I'm planning on getting an old G4 to use this back in 48bit mode in OS9.22.... but the 2906 is not a PCMCIA card? What options do i have in laptops? Do i need to get one of the older powerbooks g3 whit scsi connection?

Man what a disappointment was it, when i realized that the windows software does not support 48bit files but Mac version does :)

I just wen't trough putting an old Dicomed in use, it was a horrible ordeal.. and the old powerbook g3 are something i was hoping to get rid of.

Hi

The 1480 should work as well.
Looking back on history there was some unexplained connection issues with this card but I believe this is more to do with the general PCMCIA slim connection design then anything else.
