DF vs DF+

Postby DBenson » Tue May 07, 2013 9:22 pm

In day to day practical use, the spec sheet aside, is there any meaningful difference between the P1 DF body and the newer DF+ version?

Thanks.

Yes. Auto Focus and internal hardware are much improved.

Can you be more specific about what that means exactly? Is autofocus quicker, more precise, or more reliable? If AF is quicker, how much quicker is it? What does it mean that 'internal hardware is much improved'? Is the shutter/mirror more reliable? Has the problem been fixed where the mirror just locks down and won't flip up anymore? I've had that happen twice now with two different (non +) bodies, requiring servicing both times.

I finally tried the DF+ last week and didn't notice any improvement in AF performance in my non-scientific test.

Is it measurably quicker or more accurate? Or is it improved in another way that I don't know about?

Yes to both. New Firmware and algorithms for the AF make it much more accurate as well as faster. It also provides more options fine tuning focus with CF-20.

Ok thanks. I didn't notice it in normal shooting, that is all.

The DF+ is more accurate and faster, the DF had the option to shoot with a fast focus (less accurate) and an Accurate Focus (slow). The DF+ does both accurate and fast at the same time. Also the firmware was optimized.

Hi everybody,
What about the shutter ? Because my DF have 10 000 actuation and the shutter just dead ...
Do you now if something was done ?

Thank you.

The shutter and winder in the DF+ have gone through some design and production optimizations to improve life span and prevent premature failure. That said of course actual life span will be dependent on more than just individual actuations.
