MacBook Pro 2017 and P45

Postby mkphotomedia » Thu Aug 24, 2017 10:13 pm

I'm on the verge of having to upgrade to one of the new MacBook Pros, and I'm running a tethered workflow off my P45 and would like to stay that way. So...

1. Does the USBC-Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt-FW dongle combo work for tethering a P45? (Running the P45 on battery and tethering via he TB-FW dongle has been working great on my Air 2011...)

2. If not, is there a better way? (Apart from upgrading to an IQ260, which I'd love to do but my pocketbook won't let me...) Anyone have experience with any of the USBC docks that provide FireWire support, particularly for location work?

I can confirm that the first scenario does not work. (USB-C->TB- -> FW)

The OWC dock works very well with all Phase One firewire based camera backs.

But sorry to say there is no good way to make this work on location without access to AC power.
Only real solution there is to upgrade to an IQ back which have USB connection in the back.
Kind Regards
