Oh the pain

I was on a location job today and it was just so painful using my powerbook rather than my G5. I have a 1.67ghz powerbook with 1.5gb RAM- that's as fast as they come but it just doesn't cut it. It takes about 15 minutes to build previews from a full 2gb card, which is a bit hard to explain to the art director looking over your shoulder.

Are there any tricks I don't know for speeding this up? Build previews while downloading on or off doesn't seem to make any difference because the download portion of the process doesn't take that long anyhow, but crunching the previews takes forever.

When I can get a nice dual core intel powerbook I will be a happy camper indeed, the G4 action ain't cuttin it.

Hi,

I dont know whether you can speed it up.
I also wish C1 would start quicker and build quicker
previews. I heard this is a big plan for version 4.x
in early 2006.

Do you really have to explain 15 minutes for 45 pictures to your AD ?
Sometimes I process some jpgs for layout on location during shooting
and you may know that it takes some time on a iBook ore powerbook.
I dont mind to see my AD waiting and have the experience that digital file
handling (also after the shooting) is not happening \"hey presto, in a flash\".

After this experience they are much more knowing that you
have to be paid for file handling an processing ;-).

I had to shoot on film last month .I did not want to but my client asked me.
It was outdoor and it was cold just a few degrees over freezing point. We had
to wait 4 minutes for the developpment of one (!!) polaroid. I guess everybody
forgot these times quite fast.

C1 3.7.3 has solved my powerbook problems. A 2gb card of 77 images loads and builds previews in about 4 minutes now rather than 15.
